Welcome To The Navan Fair!
Thursday August 12th Highlights
Demolition Derby
The Demolition Derby has always been a crowd favorite here at the Navan Fair. Whats not to like? The sound of engines at full throttle as they take aim at their next victim, the hissing of steam as radiators get punctured, the sight of a car crushed like a pop can still running even if it only on two wheels. It’s fabulous entertainment for the entire family!
This year again sees us with two divisions competing at the fair. On Thursday August 12th at 7pm we have the four cylinder vehicles taking to the track and the big eight cylinder cars go at it the very next night on Friday August 13th, again at 7pm.
Jed The Mechanical Bull
Jed The mechanical Bull will be making his inaugural appearance at this years fair right after the demolition derby! Come out and challenge your friends to see who is the best cowboy or cowgirl! Word has it that Jed has a padded head and horns so you don’t get gored, but he is an ornery old bull that wants nothing more than to buck you off.! Come out and enjoy live music by Yesterday’s Tomorrow while taking a wild ride on Jed.
Yesterday’s Tomorrow
Yesterday’s Tomorrow has been on the music scene for over 12 years. Initially called GlibX, the three piece band is made up of singer/drummer Rob Lachance, guitarist Kevin Savoy and bassist Glen Pilon. The trio has evolved into a tight rock band that covers music from a wide variety of artists. Along with some original material, the group mostly performs well known songs, occasionally adding new twists to the mix that will most certainly get you moving. Performing music from a wide array of artists, the trio pride themselves on providing depth to their songs as well as offering a variety of music that dates from the 60’s right up to some of today’s up and coming musicians.
Friday August 13th Highlights
As the Navan Fair celebrates its 65th birthday, the iconic Canadian band Trooper celebrates its 35th year. This promises to be an incredible show.
About the band
It goes like this: millions of records, a couple dozen hits, sold-out coliseums across Canada, a Juno Award (Canada’s Grammy) for Band of the Year. The Vancouver Sun called them “Canadian rock heroes of the first order … the best performing band in Canada.”
The great reviews continue. In 2009, Peter Assaff of The Northern Light hailed Ra McGuire and Brian Smith as “the Canadian version of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards” and Joel Rubinoff of The Record wrote, ” … this frolicking, rollicking showcase for McGuire’s soaring pop melodies and whimsical wordplay is arguably one of the biggest Canadian bands of all time.”
Saturday August 14th Highlights
Canadian rockers Harlequin grace the stage on what promises to be a fabulous night of rock!
About the band
Harlequin was originally formed in the mid-seventies. After several demos and trips to Toronto, Harlequin was finally discovered playing in a tiny bar in Toronto by representatives of Jack Douglas, legendary producer of Aerosmith, Patti Smith and John Lennon. Harlequin was and still remains, something of a work-horse of the Canadian road, soldiering through multiple grueling Cross-Canada tours, and working with such bands as Triumph, Streetheart, Nazareth, Heart, April Wine, Pat Benatar and Saga.
Sunday August 15th Highlights
Join us for an afternoon of music when legendary performers Prairie Oyster take the stage.
About the band
You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone. Those words from another Canadian musical great certainly ring true for the fans of Prairie Oyster who were eager for a new album from their honky-tonk heroes. Thing is – the band never went away, but the gap between their records has shown how invaluable their contribution to Canadian roots music has been.
Now, the wait is over. Prairie Oyster is back and their new album, One Kiss, finds them at the very peak of their form. With more than 30 years under their well-worn belt, the band has amassed twelve new songs that is arguably their best work of their illustrious career.
