Rules and Regulations

  1. At our insurance company’s insistence, livestock exhibitors must provide proof of $1,000,000 liability insurance or entries will be refused.
  2. Entries must be receive by Friday July 19 by
  • emailed to the Secretary, Navan Fair, 1279 Colonial Road, Navan, ON, K4B 1N1, or
  • visit our website (www.navanfair.ca for online entry form with capability to pay via PayPal. Entries postmarked after this date will be subject to an additional 5% entry fee.
  1. A 20% entry fee will be deducted from prize money. Exhibitors’ passes available at the Secretary’s office.
  2. Judging will begin at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 11. Jersey show will commence at 6:00 pm.
  3. All animals must arrive by 10:00 am, Thursday, August 11. No animals will be allowed on the grounds before Tuesday, August 9 at 9:00 am. This will be strictly enforced. All animals are to be removed from the grounds by midnight, August 11, unless arrangements are made.
  4. Only one tie ring per animal will be allowed. This rule will be strictly enforced.
  5. Straw may be available for a fee. Please call Andrew at (613) 833-9035 to make arrangements ahead of time.
  6. Each exhibitor is responsible for manure and milk removal to a designated area. We ask that no milk be dumped in manure piles.
  7. Animals showing signs of contagious diseases or parasitic infections, i.e. ringworm, IBR, lice, will not be allowed on the grounds.
  8. Each Exhibitor must have purchased a 2011 Membership prior to the fair in order to exhibit. Exhibitors that have not purchased a 2011 membership will not be permitted to exhibit.
  9. All animals exhibited must be registered on the records of their applicable breed Association, in the name of the exhibitor. No animal will be accepted without a registration certificate. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
  10. Each animal will be checked against its pedigree prior to entry into the ring.
  11. Each exhibitor may show a maximum of 10 animals. Plus 2 additional Jr. animals providing they are 4H calves and shown by the 4H member.
  12. A maximum of two (2) substitute animals will be permitted. A fee of $5.00 per substitute will be charged.
  13. The judge may be asked to give reasons on the top 3 or 4 animals.
  14. Your attention is drawn to the fact that there must be at least 3 exhibitors and 24 exhibits in each breed of dairy classification; if this is not achieved the Fair reserves the right to cancel the show.
  15. For your convenience there will be a milking machine on the grounds provided by Dundas Agri Systems and the Navan Fair.
  16. Premier Breeder & Premier Exhibitor points will be calculated as follows:

Jr. Classes Points:

1=10 2=9 3=8 4=7 5=6 6=6 7=5 8=4 9=2 10=1

Sr. Classes Points:

1=20 2=18 3=16 4=14 5=12 6=10 7=8 8=6 9=4 10=2

Points will be calculated on the top 7 placings.

  • Jr. calf classes in the Ayrshire and Jersey shows will be a ribbon class only.
  • Best udder classes will be as noted further on in the prize list.

1. Special Class “Pee Wee”

Calves exhibited by boys and girls to 10 years of age as of the date of the show. Calves must be born after March 1, 2011. No one exhibiting in this class may show a calf exhibited by a 4-H CLUB member. No B.C.A. required. No entry fee required. To be shown before classes begin. This class is open to all breeds. To register call 613-833-3492 before August 3, 2011.

  1. The Jersey championship show welcomes all 4-H members, by providing a new Showmanship class. Open to ages 10-21 (as of January 1, 2011). Participant will receive a special prize.
  2. Junior Breeder’s Herd (Bred and owned by exhibitor) Group of 3 animals. Each animal in the group must have been exhibited in one of the classes for single animals. These animals must have been bred by the same breeder and the breeder must own at least two of the group.

Gay Lea Fat Production Award

The award will be presented to the cow with the highest kilograms of fat on a 305 day lactation completed by the cow placing in the top five (5) of her class. The cash award will be given out in the Sr. 3, 4-year old, 5-year old and mature cow classes. Production awards must be available for verification prior to the show.
