Theme: From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate

The intention of our division is to encourage children to participate in the Navan Fair and make them aware of the agricultural community. We hope that those who take part in this section will first and foremost have fun! So gather pencils, paints, pens, crayons, scissors and your imagination. We can hardly wait to see what you create!
| Education Rules and Regulations: |
| a. Exhibitors must enter in the grade they just completed as of June 2012. |
| b. No identification marks on the front of the entries |
| c. Only one entry piece per item in each grade category |
| d. Entries will not be refused although all efforts are to be made to have them called in the |
| week prior to the fair. |
| e. Entries should be emailed to Education-Division@hotmail.com by Thursday, August 2 so that |
| tags may be made in advance. Please provide the first and last name of the child, home |
| address, the grade and category(s) they are entering. |
| f. All paintings, drawings, etc. should be mounted on a solid coloured piece of construction |
| paper with a border of at least 1 cm showing and mounted on a 8.5″x11″ sheet of paper. |
| g. Judging will be based on: |
| A) Overall appeal; B) Creativity (original work); C) Effective use of colour, space and materials; |
| D) Neatness and organization |
| h. All entries must be the work of the exhibitor. Projects completed during the 2011-12 school |
| year are eligible. |
| i. Exhibits are to be brought to the Exhibit Building (Blue Building) on Wednesday, August 8, |
| between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. |
| j. Judging will take place on Thursday, August 9. The building will be closed for judging and will |
| reopen once the judging is finished. It will remain closed until approximately 4:00 pm. |
| k. Exhibits must be left on display until Sunday, August 12th, and can be picked up |
| after 4:30 pm. The Board is not responsible for items or prizes unclaimed after 6:00 pm on |
| Sunday evening. |
| l. Prize money will be ready for pick up at the Fair Office any time after Noon on |
| Friday, August 10th. |
| m. Any prizes not claimed by the end of September 15th 2012 will be considered a donation to the |
| Cumberland Township Agricultural Society. |

| NOTE: Prizes for Pre-School to and including Senior Kindergarten: |
| There will be a prize for these exhibitors and will be available for pickup on the Friday after 12 pm. |

| Pre-School |
| 1. Create a splatter paint picture (8.5”x11”) (Mounted on construction paper). |
| 2. Cut out and color a butterfly (8.5”x11”) (Mounted on construction paper)(Paint, Crayon, |
| Marker accepted). |
| 3. Decorate a rock. |
| 4. Make a musical shaker out of a toilet paper roll and decorate. |
| Junior Kindergarten |
| 5. Color you favorite pictures from a coloring book. |
| 6. Paint a picture of your family. |
| 7. Create a farm animal using paper plates and decorate. |

| Senior Kindergarten |
| 8. Create a flamingo using construction paper (Not to exceed 3 feet tall). |
| 9. Create a box for your teeth for the tooth fairy |
| 10. Create an insect using pipe cleaners |
|
| Grade One |
| 11. Make a hand puppet using a sock |
| 12. Make a poster showing how to take care of a farm animal. (No larger than 24” X 24”) |
| 13. Create a bird’s nest using material found in nature |
| 14. Print the alphabet on a 8.5”x11” sheet of paper |
|
| Grade Two |
| 15. Make a wind chime using this year’s theme “From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate” |
| (No Store Bought Clothing & must be Freestanding) |

| 29. Create a mismatched animal using cut out from magazines |

| Grade Six |
| 30. Draw & color Canada’s Provincial & Territorial flower (mount on a piece of Bristol board) and |
| Name Provinces & type of flower. |
| 31. Create a solar system (either free standing or hung). |
| 32. Decorate a blank apron. |
| 33. Create a magazine cover of your favourite activity at the Navan Fair |

| Grade Seven |
| 34. Design and decorate a Photo frame. |
| 35. Make a tepee |
| 36. Make a bridge out of popsicle sticks (must be freestanding). |
| 37. Display a collection of leaves, pine needles etc., ironed between 2 sheets of waxed paper. |

| Grade Eight |
| 38. Create a graffiti tag (8.5”x11”) (Mounted on a piece of black Bristol board). |
| 39. Create a 2 minute video advertising in the Navan Fair. |
| 40. Create a 3D gift card & holder |
| 41. Make a Christmas Cracker. |

OAAS YOUTH POSTER COMPETITION
| Theme: “From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate” |
| a. Name and date of fair to be clearly shown. |
| b. Poster must be hand drawn. No computer generated work. |
| c. Size: minimum 8.5”x11” (23cm x 28cm) to a maximum of 11”x17” (28cm x 44cm) |
| d. Must be centered on cardstock or Bristol board with a 2” border on all four sides. |
| e. Labeled on the back with “Navan Fair, District I, owner of the poster and contact number |

| The 1st place winner will have their poster taken to the OAAS District Level competition in October to compete to enter the OAAS Poster Competition at the convention in Toronto in February 2013. Please make sure to follow the instruction carefully. If you are the 1st place winner, please leave the poster in the Fair Office after the Fair. |

2 DIMENSIONAL FAIR DISPLAY – Handmade
| Open to all ages |
| Theme: “From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate” |
| a. Name and date of fair to be clearly shown. |
| b. Use a combination of art, photographic, magazine and computer generated images. |
| c. No raised items – must lay flat. |
| d. Should be mounted on standard full sheet of Bristol board (22”x28”). |
| e. Labelled on the back with Navan Fair, District I, owner of the poster and contact number. |
| f. No electrical or moving parts allowed. |
