Rules and Regulations

  1. All exhibits must be grown by the exhibitor.
  2. Use fresh flowers in arrangements unless specified otherwise.
  3. One entry per exhibitor in each section.
  4. Exhibitors must supply all vessels for their exhibits.
  5. No flexible containers to be used. Be sure containers are heavy enough to hold top heavy flowers such as gladiolus.
  6. Containers should be as specified as they are considered in the judging.
  7. To qualify as an exhibitor with highest points of the show placement, the exhibitor must enter at least one item in each of Classes 1 and 2, as well as, at least one of the Arrangements in Class 5. Please Note: Points will be awarded for ALL classes.
  8. Entries to be phoned in to Guylaine Lemieux, 613-835-4082, email to guylainelemieux1@hotmail.com or dropped off at the Fair Office, no later than Tuesday, August 9. NO LATE ENTRIES PLEASE!
  9. Exhibits will be received between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 10.
  10. No exhibits will be accepted on Thursday, August 11 when judging takes place.
  11. Exhibits must be left until 4:30 pm, Sunday, August 15, 2011. Please no early removals.
  12. After 6:00 PM Sunday, August 14, you, the exhibitor, are responsible for your own exhibits.

  14. Prize money can be picked up anytime starting Saturday, August 13th and will be available until end of day Tuesday, September 30th, 2011 following the Fair.
  15. Many of the floriculture sponsors have generously donated gift certificates in lieu of cash, prizes may be awarded in the form of gift certificates to the equivalent cash value. (For children’s classes, cash will always be awarded)

Hints for Exhibitors in Floriculture Classes

  • All exhibits should be attractively arranged.
  • If a bud shows colour, it counts as a bloom. In cut flower exhibits, please remove, if colour is showing.
  • Exhibit must be exactly as specified for the class.
  • Do not leave seed head on cut flower exhibits.
  • Watch for wilted petals. Judges award fewer points if flowers are wilted.
  • Flowers should be uniform in size, colour and development.
  • Ideal gladiolus spike should be 40% bloom, 30% bud showing colour, and 30% green tip.
  • Hybrid Tea Roses are shown disbudded.
  • African violets should contain only a single crown in a pot

  1. Asters, 3 blooms, one colour.

Centerpiece for an outdoor BBQ, combination of vegetables and flowers.

  1. “Pressed for Time”

A display of pressed flowers and foliage, framed, not to exceed 8” x 10” picture size.

  1. FAIR THEME “Grandma’s Quilt”

A quilt block in square 8” or 9” pan using dried flowers and plant materials.

  1. FAIR THEME “Purple Haze”

A groovy 1970’s arrangement using a container from the decade.

Gift certificate prizes for Arrangement Classes.

Class: Kid’s Floriculture

Kid’s Rules and Regulations

  1. All classes are fresh flowers only
  2. Flowers must be home-grown, by child or parent.
  3. All entries must be called into Guylaine Lemieux 613-835-4082, emailed to guylainelemieux1@hotmail.com or dropped off at the Fair Office no later than Tuesday, August 9.
  4. All containers are to be supplied by the exhibitor.
  5. Points will be awarded for each placement for a chance at extra prizes.

Prize Money for each category in Kid’s Flower Division are:

  3. Fair Theme Class “Tick Tock Use Clock” – a collection of flowers using a time piece as an accessory.

8 to 11 YEARS

  1. “At the Beach” – A summery arrangement using a sand toy as a container.
  2. “Happy Birthday” A fresh flower arrangement for a birthday using accessories
  3. Fair Theme Class “Rock Around the Clock” – a 1950’s inspired arrangement. Accessories should be used.

12 to 16 YEARS

  1. “Let’s Go to the Movies” – A fresh flower arrangement depicting your favourite movie.
  2. “Nuts” A crazy fresh flower arrangement – let your imagination go wild.
  3. Fair Theme Class “Yesterday’s News” – an arrangement (maximum 12” in height) suitable for a breakfast table, in container decorated with newspaper.
