Rules and Regulations
a. Exhibitor must be a member of the Cumberland Township Agricultural Society
    (your membership number must be given when entering)
b. All exhibits must be grown by the exhibitor.
c. Use fresh flowers in arrangements unless specified otherwise.
d. One entry per exhibitor in each section.
e. Exhibitors must supply all vessels for their exhibits.
f. No flexible containers to be used. Be sure containers are heavy enough to hold top heavy
    flowers such as gladiolus.
g. Containers should be as specified as they are considered in the judging.
h. To qualify as an exhibitor with highest points of the show placement, the exhibitor must
     enter at least one item in each of Classes 1 and 2, as well as, at least one of the
     Arrangements in Class 5. Please Note: Points will be awarded for ALL classes.
i. Entries to be phoned in to Guylaine Lemieux, 613-835-4082, email
     to guylainelemieux1@hotmail.com or dropped off at the Fair Office, no later than
     Tuesday, August 6. NO LATE ENTRIES PLEASE!
j. Exhibits will be received between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 7.
k. No exhibits will be accepted on Thursday, August 8 when judging takes place.
l. Exhibits must be left until 4:30 pm, Sunday, August 11, 2013. Please no early removals.
m.   After 6:00 PM Sunday, August 11, you, the exhibitor, are responsible for your own exhibits.
n.  See complete Rules and Regulations in the front of this book.
o.   Prize money can be picked up anytime starting Saturday, August 10, 2013 and will be
      available until end of day Tuesday, August 13th, 2013 following the Fair.
p.  Many of the floriculture sponsors have generously donated gift certificates in lieu of cash,
     prizes may be awarded in the form of gift certificates to the equivalent cash value.
     (For children’s classes, cash will always be awarded)

Hints for Exhibitors in Floriculture Classes

- All exhibits should be attractively arranged.
- A spray is a portion of plant with a number of flowers.
- A stem is a plant structure carrying one or more flowers and/or buds.
- A bloom is an individual flower, one to a stem
- If a bud us not opened and not showing colour, it does not count as a bloom and it is
   a good idea to remove it.
- Exhibit must be exactly as specified for the class.
- Do not leave seed head on cut flower exhibits.
- Watch for wilted petals. Judge award fewer points if flowers are wilted.
- Flowers should be uniform in size, colour, and development.
- Ideal gladiolus spike should be 40% bloom, 30% bud showing colour, and 30% green tip.
- Hybrid Tea Roses are shown disbudded.
- African violets should contain only a single crown in a pot.
- Flower arrangements are to be viewed from all sides unless stated otherwise.

CLASS 1: Cut Flowers

1. Asters, 3 blooms, one colour.

3. Calendulas, 5 blooms, one variety.
4. Celosia, 3 stems.
5. Cleome, 3 stems, one colour.
6. Collection of annuals over 12” in height, 3 different kinds – 2 spikes, sprays or stems
    of each kind, in one container – labelled.
7. Collection of annuals under 12” in height, 3 different kinds – 2 spikes, sprays or stems
    of each kind, in one container – labelled.
8. Collection of perennials 3 different kinds, 2 stems of each, in one container – labelled.
9. Coneflowers, 3 blooms, any colour.

Garden planter using assorted flowers in bloom, and vines (vines optional). $50.00 donated by Eileen Corry.

CLASS 5: Arrangements

1. “Beyond the Flower Bed”
     A design using dried preserved plant materials consisting of flowers, foliage, fungus.
     Look to nature for your imagination.
2. “Tequila Sunrise”
     Fresh flower arrangement in shades of red, orange and yellow.
3. “Time to Share Friendship”
     An arrangement of fresh flowers using a cup and saucer.
4. “Pressed for Time”
     A display of pressed flowers and foliage, framed, not to exceed 8” x 10” picture size.
5. FAIR THEME: “Stirrup Some Fun”
     A kitchen table arrangement in a mixing bowl, using fresh flowers and mixing utensils as
     accessories.
6. FAIR THEME: “Horsing Around”
     A fresh flower arrangement, incorporating a horseshoe.

- Exhibitor with the Highest Total Points of the Show: $50.00 prize value. This exhibitor will also
   receive the Eldred Hayes Memorial Trophy at the Agricultural Society’s Annual Meeting in
   January.

CLASS: KID’S FLORICULTURE

Kid’s Rules and Regulations
a. All classes are fresh flowers only
b. Flowers must be home-grown, by child or parent.
c. All entries must be called into Guylaine Lemieux 613-835-4082, emailed
    to guylainelemieux1@hotmail.com or dropped off at the Fair Office no later than
    Tuesday, August 6.
d. All containers are to be supplied by the exhibitor.
e. Points will be awarded for each placement for a chance at extra prizes.
Prize Money for each category in Kid’s Flower Division are:
1st – $4.00    2nd – $3.00    3rd – $2.00    4th – $1.50    5th – $1.00

FAIR THEME CLASSES:

1stPrize will be $10.00 in each age group, for these special classes.

3. FAIR THEME: Lil’ Buckaroo” – A display of flowers in a container covered by a picture depicting a rodeo scene.

8 TO 11 YEARS

4. “Watch Your Garden Grow” – A floral arrangement displayed in a small watering can.
5. “Happy Birthday” – A fresh flower arrangement for a birthday using accessories
6. FAIR THEME: “Fit to be Tied” – A rodeo inspired flower arrangement in a container
    wrapped in rope.

12 TO 16 YEARS

7. “Let’s Go to the Movies” – A fresh flower arrangement depicting your favourite movie.
8. “Nature’s Bounty” – A fresh flower arrangement using a fruit or vegetable as a container
9. FAIR THEME: “Let’s go to the Rodeo” – A flower arrangement using a container and/or
    accessories representing an event at the rodeo. Use your imagination.
