About the act

Singer-songwriter Kim Mitchell is a true Canadian rock icon who has achieved gold and multiplatinum status leading the musically eclectic Max Webster in the 1970′s, a band who defined alternative and independent long before the words became clichés, and also during his solo career. He’s sold over 1.5 million recordings in this country over a lengthy career that remains creatively vibrant to this day. He has won three Juno Awards for “Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year”, “Album of the Year” and “Male Vocalist of the Year”. In the late 70′s and through all of the 80′s Kim toured the largest arenas in the country from one end to the other more times than one can count. He continues to perform at festivals and Performing Arts Theatres to this day. He is a respected song writer having penned and recorded classic hits like ‘Go For Soda,’ ‘Rock N Roll Duty,’ ‘Patio Lanterns,’ ‘I am a Wild Party,’ ‘Easy To Tame’ and ‘All We Are,’ to name just a few – all songs that have become part of the Canadian musical genome. Add to that several new songs from his most recent recording Ain’t Life Amazing (including the national rock radio hit of the title track), and audiences are thrilled to find that participating in a Kim Mitchell concert today is like being at the live recording of a greatest hits box set. It’s in the live concert setting where Kim’s power and passion really shine. In a recent interview, Gene Simmons claimed that KISS would never let Max Webster open for them, stating: “We were terrified of you guys. You could actually play!” Mitchell remains undoubtedly one of the most unique guitar players on the planet.

Dallas Smith knows country music like he knows success.

He knows what it’s like to sell millions of records, because prior to his breakout country solo debut album Jumped Right In and its smash first single, “Somebody Somewhere,” and the new “If It Gets You Where You Wanna Go,” the Vancouver native furnished the pipes for the rock band Default.

Since their formation in 1999, the JUNO Award winners pumped out four albums, sold a couple million and paved the way for Smith to bring rock and roll power to his brand of energetic country. But it’s only recently, while Default is taking a breather, that he decided to “jump right in” and pursue his country dreams.

Here’s the impressive part: with a natural drawl in his voice, the songs on Jumped Right In sound as though Smith has never sung a note of rock ‘n roll in his life…as if he was born to sing country.

In the meantime, with the strong Canadian country radio bear hug that has greeted Dallas with his hits “Somebody Somewhere” and “If It Gets You Where You Wanna Go,” Mr. Smith has helped kick start summer with an album that has “excitement” stamped all over it. “I wanted to bring something upbeat to radio and something that’s fun to play live,” he says.

There are plenty of others, too, and you’ll hear them for yourself when Dallas Smith plays Navan Fair with a first-rate band that includes former Bif Naked bassist Scotty Cook and ex-Nickelback drummer Ryan Vikedal.

Jumped Right In is that stellar debut: a blazing introduction to Dallas Smith, a phenomenal talent that will be around to thrill country music listeners and audiences for a while…and then some!
