Get your Mechanical Bull Riding team in! It is taking place on Thursday the 11th after the demolition derby. This year there is a women’s and men’s division. All riders must 18+. To register email navanbullriding@hotmail.co​m with the name of your team, the names of your team members, and whether you are entering the men’s or women’s division.

The demolition derby has always been one of the favorite events at the Navan Fair, and this year promises to be no different. To participate in this event you need to be just a little bit crazy, perhaps even have a screw loose. Lets face it, you are facing off against a bunch of guys that want to ram you into next week.

I was curious as to what made demolition derby drivers tick so I sought out rookie competitor Justin “The Mad Man” Birch for his thoughts on this years derby. Justin struck me as a nice lad, but I’m quite sure that the elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top floor. You see, Justin has decided to paint his car in honor of his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. He may as well have painted a target on his back. Justin has made it very clear that he isn’t a fan of Ottawa Senator supporters either, referring to them as “cocky.”  Justin is a brave soul indeed.

Lets take a look at what Justin had to say shall we?

Needless to say I think that whatever happens it is going to be a great show. Come see Justin “The Mad Man” Birch on Thursday August 12th at 7:00pm. Right afterward, there will be a mechanical bull riding contest under the domes with live entertainment!

Rules and Regulations

1. Each Exhibitor must purchase a 2012 Exhibitor Membership prior to the fair in order to exhibit. Please refer to the membership section for prices. Payment must accompany the entry form. Exhibitors that have not purchased a 2012 membership will not be permitted to exhibit.
2. No entry or membership required for Peewee Exhibitors.
3. Entrance pass will be sent to Exhibitor once entries have been received.
4. Entry fees will be deducted at the rate of 10% from all prize money and mailed out after the event.
5. Exhibitor (rider) can only show 2 (two) horses per class.
6. In order to show, entries must be submitted (even if membership is paid) no later than July 27, 2012. ABSOLUTLEY NO ENTRIES THE DAY OF THE SHOW.
7. Day of show, upon arrival competitors must register with Director.
8. Submit entries via:

• visit our website www.navanfair.com for online entry form with capability to pay via PayPal.
9. Entries close: July, 27, 2012 – no exception
10. All exhibitors must show proof of $1,000,000.00 liability insurance coverage.
11. Horses must have a negative Coggins Test of the current year.
12. Directors reserve the right to adjust the payout if needed.
13. No interference or complaints to the judge or directors by any exhibitors will be allowed. Judges and Directors decisions are final.
14. Proper western riding attire is required; Western Hat (regular or hard), shirt with sleeves & boots.
15. Once the exhibitor is in the ring and loses his/her hat he/she will be penalized 5 seconds.
16. Except for Peewee; horses may only enter once in a class.
17. For rider and horses security no chute start, circle rule applies. (You must circle your horse at the top of the ring before you start or you will be disqualified).
18. One minute rule applies to enter the ring and start the timer.

• Juniors – if less than 6 horses – class will be combined with seniors and an extra “D” placing will be added.
• Juniors and seniors – if less than 11 horses in class – placing will be 1D
• Juniors and seniors -  if less than 16 horses in class – placing will be 2D
• Juniors 3D all classes is 1 second + 2 seconds
• Seniors 3D Barrels & Poles is 1 + 1 second
• Seniors 3D Dash, Keyhole & Flag is ½ + ½ second

Rules and Regulations

1. All entries will pull from a manufacturer’s standard draw bar hitch. If a ring hitch is used it must be attached to a standard draw bar; and not higher than 20 inches measured from the ground or scale pad.
2. All tractors must have the engine throttle controlled only by the manufacturer’s original throttle linkage.
3. All operators are to remain seated during pull and follow the instructions of the track officials.
4. Farm stock tractors will have stock block and pistons, carburetor, or injection pump and other internal or external parts catalogue for make and model indicated only. If an entry is brought into question by another competitor, through the track officials, the onus is on the owner to prove the entry is indeed eligible for that class. If they are unwilling to prove their entry; they are automatically disqualified without recourse. (If tear down is requested, a $200.00 deposit is required from complainant. If the tractor in question is legal, the $200.00 is given to the owner of the tractor. If the tractor is found to be illegal, the $200.00 is returned to the depositor.)
5. No alcohol or other racing fuels or pressurized fuels allowed unless manufactured L.P. gas tractor.
6. Evidence of alcohol and/or drugs in the operator is grounds for disqualification.
7. Stock classes – 7200, 9200, 11200, 12200, 13200, 15200, 16200 -20000 lbs. Antique classes (Pre-1960) 1000 to 3000 lbs., 3000 to 4000 lbs., 4000 to 5000 lbs., 5000 to 6000 lbs., 6000 to 7000 lbs, 7000 to 8000 lbs., 8000 to 9000 lbs., 9000 to 10000 lbs.
8. All tires to be prescribed in manufacturers’ literature for make and model.
9. Start from tight hitch – no test pull dropping in pail off. If sled is okay, 1st pull is only pull. 50-foot restart in pull off only applies if tractor stalls.
10. Any weights or parts falling from tractor while pulling will result in disqualification.
11. Competitors must be 16 years or older.
12. All tractors must weigh in immediately after pull.
13. Front end of tractor lifting more than 30 inches will be stopped by Judge.
14. The decision of the Track Judge is final. Debate could entail ejection.
15. Tractors that go out of bounds while pulling are automatically disqualified by the Track Official.
16. Only tractors manufactured before 1960 will be eligible to compete in the antique classes. Entries must meet original specifications. Performance enhancing or modification is not permitted
17. Tires: Stock sizes as from factory or disqualified.
18. Turbos: Only equipped from factory
19. Exhaust: Stock as from factory or straight
20. Hitch: As farm stock regulation.
21. R.P.M.: All gas tractors will not exceed manufactured rpm of 2200 rpm. All diesel tractors will not exceed manufactured rpm of 2500 rpm.
22. Engine: Stock block to match make of tractor. All other tractors that do not meet these requirements may not pull.
23. Trucks must pull with original manufacturer’s specifications and hitch.
24. Technical judge’s decision is final. Any harassment of the judge will be an automatic disqualification.

Rules and Regulations

• No membership required.
• No entry fee.
• No large animals such as ponies, horses, cows or calves.
• Exhibitors must be 12 years of age and under.
• Exhibitors must be able to handle pet by themselves.
• Exhibitors to provide cages and/or transportation for pets.
• All pets must be living (no dolls, stones, etc.)
• Entries should be phoned ahead by Friday, August 10, so that the committee will know how many entries to expect. All entries should be in the Dome area. Judging will commence at 2:15 pm.
• The Society will not accept responsibility for damage or loss of these pets. See Rule #15 (CTAS Rules and Regulations – Exhibitors and Competitors)
• Prizes: $1.00 with a special gift bag
• Some of the categories the judges will be using include:

Largest Pet – Shortest Pet – Longest Hair – Shortest Hair – Best Trained – Best Groomed – Best Feathered – Loudest – Best Swimmer – Largest Family – Longest Ears – Most Unusual – Longest Tail – Shortest Tail – Curliest Hair – Best Presentation etc.

Rules and Regulations.

NEW THIS YEAR. Judging will be based in 3 categories on the following  4 criteria by a panel located along the route:

• Creativity/Originality
• Decoration & Costume
• Crowd appeal
• Interpretation of Fair theme

The 3 new categories are:

• Family
• Community
• Commercial

NEW THIS YEAR. Floats must be on site no later than 10:00 to be signed in and given their parade position number card for display on the entry. All entries must be pre-registered to participate. (Late-comers, and non-registrants may still join the parade, but risk not being eligible for judging.)

• At our insurance company insistence, livestock exhibitors must provide proof of liability insurance or entries will have to be refused. ( Please Fax to Fair office at 613-835-4008)
• Unlicensed drivers will not be allowed to operate motorized vehicles in the parade.
• Entries by e-mail to ehodges@xplornet.com , by phone to Eleanor Hodges at 613-833-2792, or fair office at 613-835-2766 by Friday, August 3rd, 2012. The parade will begin in the field on Smith Road adjacent to Smith Ridge Meadows. (Same as last year)
• Theme of the Fair this year is, “From Dinner Plate to Farm Gate”. You may refer to the theme when you design your float entries, but it is not compulsory.
• Each entry is to supply own power (tractor, horse or vehicle) and wagon for the float, with a maximum height of 12 feet.
• (Please note that costumed children, and decorated bikes & pets, need to be present no later than 10:00 for their judging which will still take place on site so they can receive their prizes that day.)
• The parade will start at 10:45, rain or shine.
• The parade ends at the Delson Drive entrance to the Fair grounds. (Floats may continue along Delson to Trim Road for return to the parade field for dismantling if required.)
• Tossing of candy etc; is not recommended due to liability issues, but hand-delivery is encouraged.
• A school bus is provided to return personnel to the field if needed.

Prize Money (for each category):

1^st – $75.00

2^nd – $50.00

3^rd – $40.00

NEW THIS YEAR. All prize winners will be posted at the Fair Office no later than 2p.m. after the parade ends. Each prize winning entry will be notified by phone, and advised they can pick up their prize monies and ribbons at the Fair Office any time during the Fair, or the week following. (Please call ahead to make arrangements.)

Note:-  Any monies not picked up by the end of September will be considered a donation to the Fair.

The Lloyd G. Morrison Memorial Plaque will be awarded to the “best over-all float” each year.  This plaque, donated by Jean Morrison, will be presented at the Annual General Meeting held each January, and then displayed in the Navan Fair Agricultural building.  A  large rosette ribbon and certificate will also be given to the winning entry to keep.

Separate Classes.

Childrens costumes. – $6.00 and a ribbon will be awarded to each worthy entry. (Entrant must participate in the Fair Parade, but NOT as part of a float.)  

1. Decorated bikes and wagons, 3 -12 years of age. – $4.00 and a ribbon to each worthy entry.
2. Decorated pets, 3 -12 years of age. Must be on a leash, or in a cage and on a wagon if required. – $4.00 and a ribbon to each worthy entry.
3. Horse & rider. Ribbons only.
4. Horse drawn vehicles. Ribbons only. (Please display your name on entry.)
5. Antique tractor, and /or farm implement. Ribbons only.
6. Antique cars, trucks, or other antique vehicles. Ribbons only.
7. Decorated Lawn Tractors. (Use your imagination and make your tractor look like something else)      ***Driver must be 16 years of age. Ribbons only.
